Let’s save four more Daintree properties in June 2022!

Until the 30th of June, all gifts will be matched to help us purchase and protect four more at-risk properties in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest. We have Lot 6, Lot 93, and Lot 197 under contract and are targeting one more property before the end of the financial year.

Every dollar you donate now will be matched as we strive to purchase and protect four precious Daintree Rainforest properties by the 30th of June.

Right now we have three properties under contract. Lot 6 Thornton Peak Drive is a 3.75-hectare property at Forest Creek that provides habitat for rare Bennett's Tree-kangaroos. Lot 93 Cape Tribulation Road is an 8,09-hectare property at Diwan that provides essential habitat for the endangered Southern Cassowary. Lot 197 Quandong Road is a one-hectare property at Cow Bay that provides habitat for the Striped Possum.

Negotiations are also underway for the purchase of one additional Daintree Rainforest property. However, I can’t proceed until I can ensure we can back up the commitment.

In June all gifts will be matched up to $120,000 - this will contribute to the purchase of four more Daintree Rainforest properties.

Urgent- help purchase and protect Lot 6, Lot 93, and Lot 197

Recognising the urgent need to protect the Daintree a leadership team of donors has stepped up to establish this Matching Gift Challenge. Their aim is to inspire others to support the purchase of four very special properties and protect them forever.

Purchasing one property at a time has not stopped others from buying land, clearing the rainforest, and building houses. In the past few months, we have witnessed the clearing of several properties in the Daintree.

We have purchased 22 Daintree Rainforest properties but we can't stop now. We need your help, please, donate now.

The last two years have seen a rapid increase in rainforest clearing and housing construction. As this occurs those properties of exceptionally high value to nature conservation are lost to development.

Daintree Rainforest properties are mostly sold on the open market. We have managed to purchase 22 Daintree properties for conservation, but we are not the only interested party. There is competition from people who would purchase land in the world’s oldest rainforest and develop it for housing.

To purchase and protect more Daintree Rainforest properties we must act quickly when they come on the market. To do that we need to have the cash to pay a deposit and the confidence that we can raise the funds by the settlement date.

Each month more properties are offered for sale and the need to purchase and protect them is now urgent.

In June all gifts will be matched up to $120,000 - this will contribute to the purchase of four more Daintree Rainforest properties.

Preventing development saves the rainforest from clearing. That prevents fragmentation of the rainforest and settlement that brings more traffic on local roads, the introduction of domestic pets that prey on wildlife, and exotic plants that become weeds. Winding back the disastrous subdivision helps protect the most biodiverse ecosystem in Australia.

My vision for the Daintree Lowland Rainforest requires the buyback of all undeveloped freehold properties in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest and their management for nature conservation. Not only do we want to see no further development, but we also want the negative impacts of the rural residential subdivision to be reversed.
