FUNDRAISING FOR THIS PROJECT WAS COMPLETED IN OCTOBER 2019 AND SETTLEMENT ON THE PROPERTY PURCHASE OCCURRED IN JANUARY 2020.

The rainforest and other ecosystems of Lot 3 Thornton Peak Drive in Forest Creek hosts more than 230 species of plants, including six threatened species. Purchasing this property is a conservation priority.

We launched our special appeal to purchase and protect Lot 3 Thornton Peak Drive on the 28^th of June and reached the target in October 2019. Thank you to everyone who has donated to support the purchase of Lot 3 Thornton Peak Drive in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest.

LOT 3 Thornton peak drive

Through our Land Purchase to Save the Daintree National Park project, we are buying land and adding properties to the Daintree National Park and World Heritage Area and are helping to preserve critical Cassowary habitat. 

Lot 3 Thornton Peak Drive is located at Forest Creek, immediately north of the Daintree River. Buying and protecting this property will be a fantastic outcome for conservation. It connects to the Daintree National Park, is in pristine condition and is a vital habitat for the endangered Southern Cassowary. Buying land in this location will help us to reverse the impacts of the disastrous 1980’s rural residential subdivision. 

Lot 3 Thornton Peak Drive is a freehold property zoned by the Douglas Shire Council as suitable for development. The property is 1.43 ha in size (14,300 sqm). With a purchase price of $75,000.

Lot 3 backs on to the Daintree National Park at the right of this picture. 

Lot 3 Thornton Peak Drive has two distinct ecosystems, lowland tropical rainforest, and a dryer sclerophyll forest. A small creek runs through the property and there are many beautiful Fan Palms. There is evidence of Cassowaries (lots of scats or droppings) and Bennetts Tree-kangaroos have recently been sighted nearby. 

Six Threatened plant species have been found on the property that are listed under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. This includes the Thornton Aspen, a very rare plant previously found at only six locations between the Daintree River and Bloomfield to the north.
