Protected forever! Lot 11 Buchanan Creek Road will now be protected from the threat of development thanks to the generosity of hundreds of donors.

Thank you to everyone who contributed gifts to help raise the $102,000 required for the purchase and protection of Lot 11 Buchanan Creek Road. We are especially grateful to Little Locals - Early Learning who made saving this Daintree Rainforest property their community project in 2021. Thanks also to HalfCut and the amazing support provided by your team. Lot 11 Buchanan Creek Road at Cow Bay shares a boundary with the Daintree National Park. The property also has many of the natural values that supported the national park being declared a World Heritage Area in 1988. Our survey of Lot 11 Buchanan Creek Road identified 185 species of native plants including three Threatened species listed on the Queensland Nature Conservation Act 1992. They are the China Camp Laurel (Beilschmiedia castrisinensis), Gray’s Walnut (Endiandra grayi), and Noah’s Walnut (Endiandra microneura). Lot 11 has also been mapped as essential Cassowary habitat by the Queensland Government. There are many species of native Laurels which provide fruits for Cassowaries. See photos from the property here.

TWO PROPERTIES NOW SAVED, ONE MORE TO GO!

On the 30^th of October, I launched an appeal to raise $349,117 for the purchase and protection of three properties in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest. They are, Lot 242 White Beech Road, Lot 11 Buchanan Creek Road, and Lot 8 Buchanan Creek Road, all in Cow Bay. Now we are very close to our goal with two of these properties purchased and protected. 

This also brings us very close to our overall goal for 2021 which is to purchase and protect, on average, one property per month. With eleven Daintree Rainforest properties now secured we need to purchase and protect Lot 8 Buchannan Creek Road in Cow Bay, then, together, we will have achieved a hugely significant outcome. 

To purchase Lot 8 Buchanan Creek Road, I need to raise $64,505 by the 24^th of December. That’s just six days away.

Lot 8 Buchanan Creek Road, Cow Bay

Lot 8 Buchanan Creek Road is an at-risk freehold property that can be developed for housing, just as nearby properties have been in the past. It also shares a boundary with the Daintree National Park and World Heritage Area. Please see photos of Lot 8 Buchanan Creek Road here. 

During our survey of Lot 8 Buchanan Creek Road, we found two Threatened species of birds, the Macleay's Fig-parrot and the Southern Cassowary. A total of 176 species of native plants were found on the property including three Threatened species listed in the Queensland Nature Conservation Act (1992). Please read the results of the survey of Lot 8 here.
