A pledge of $50,000 from a generous supporter is being used to match all donations dollar for dollar up to $100,000. This is the amount needed to finalise the purchase and protect Lot 167 Buchanan Creek Road, Cow Bay in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest.

With the matching gift, each $2.50 you donate will save one square meter of the Daintree Rainforest and protect it forever.

We are focusing on the purchase and protection of the rainforest at Cow Bay as it has one of the highest populations of Cassowaries in Australia and the number one threat to the endangered Cassowary is the loss of habitat.

The rainforest at Lot 167 Buchanan Creek Road is zoned for development and could be lost to housing. It has also been mapped as essential habitat of the endangered Cassowary so it’s extremely important that we purchase and protect this property now. 

Evidence of Cassowaries being present and utilising Lot 167 Buchanan Creek Road for habitat was identified in the form of seedlings growing from droppings containing local native rainforest seeds. 

We identified 143 species of plants on Lot 167 including a single 8m tall specimen of Noah’s Walnut. Noah’s Walnut is only found within the Daintree lowland rainforests predominately north of the Daintree River and south of Cape Tribulation. The seeds of this Threatened species are dispersed by the Endangered Southern Cassowary. This special matching gift challenge offers you the rare opportunity to have the impact of your personal generosity doubled thanks to this generous matching gift from one of our major benefactors.
