Little Locals have helped to save a special property in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest for future generations to enjoy. 

We’ve provided answers to the most frequently asked questions for the purchase and protection of Lot 6 Thornton Peak Drive.

With development increasing in the Daintree there is an urgent need to buy back more at-risk rainforest land. Now, with two Daintree properties in Thornton Peak Drive already purchased and protected it's time for a third. Lot 6 Thornton Peak Drive is 3.75 hectares of critical habitat for native wildlife and plants. We must act now to protect this important property from development.  

Last week, more than a hundred friends and supporters came to the Daintree Rainforest to walk alongside Eastern Kuku Yalanji people and learn about the world’s oldest continually existing tropical rainforest from the oldest continually existing human culture. Together we saw firsthand how the properties we are purchasing for conservation are protected and managed.

Hooray! Lot 373 Hickory Road at Cow Bay will now be purchased and managed for its exceptional conservation values. This great outcome will provide a secure habitat for the endangered Southern Cassowary and 210 native plant species of plants. Thank you to all of our wonderful donors! 

In the Daintree Rainforest, we are always on the lookout for Cassowaries and in recent weeks we’ve been very lucky indeed. 

Our survey of Lot 373 Hickory Road at Cow Bay identified 210 native plant species. This included four species listed as Threatened and our first time finding the Fragrant Boxwood. 

It's not every day that you can say you've helped to save Threatened species however that's true for our generous donors today. 

The tropical rainforest on Lot 257 Silver Ash Road and the creek flowing through the property are exceptionally beautiful. This land was excluded from inclusion in the Daintree National Park when it was declared in 1988. Now the time has come to set this right.
