We want to prevent further development in the Daintree Rainforest and we know many people in Australia and around the world want that too. So we've bitten off a big challenge – the purchase and protection of not one but two Daintree properties.
The two at-risk Daintree properties - Lot 34 and Lot 26
Due to the significant threat of development, we called for contracts of sale on Lot 34 Cape Tribulation Road at Diwan and Lot 26 Ronald Road at Forest Creek.
We extended the settlement date for as long as we could. Now we have to complete the purchase of these two at-risk properties in July and have to raise the funds by the 30th of June.
The total amount needed is $509,300. That is the big challenge and we only have until the 30th of June to get that done and there is no Plan B.
Please, help us save these two at-risk Daintree Rainforest properties. This is our special End of Financial Year appeal.
Please, make a gift today of $100 or $300 to help us purchase and protect the habitat for the endangered Cassowary or $250 or $500 to help save these two at-risk Daintree Rainforest properties. Please, make your tax-deductible donation now. If you prefer to use PayPal? Please donate here.
These two properties provide Casowary habitat!
We decided to bite off this big challenge as these two properties are at very high risk of development.
The Douglas Shire Council has these properties zoned for development. More and more people want to leave Australia’s big cities and see the Daintree as an attractive option and landowners have a legal right to clear rainforest and build on these freehold properties. If these properties are in private ownership the risk of development remains.
We are already seeing the results of development pressures. A clearing was made on Lot 34 in preparation for a house site. The same happened on Lot 26. Fortunately, these plans were not fulfilled, and the properties were put back on the market. We won’t be so fortunate in the future.
To purchase these Daintree Rainforest properties and prevent development we must raise $362,424. There is no plan B.

Help save Bennett's Tree-kangaroo habitat
There is one direct way to stop development in the Daintree - buyback works.
The buyback of rainforest land is the most direct way to protect habitat and save threatened species. There is nothing that can match it. It provides the best value for your investment in nature conservation.
The survey by our ecologist and botanist of Lot 26 Ronald Road at Forest Creek identified suitable habitat for the Southern Cassowary and Bennett’s Tree-kangaroo. He also found five threatened species of plants - the China Camp Laurel, Gray’s Walnut, Noah’s Walnut, Climbing Pandan, and Cyclophyllum costatum (a small tree with no common name).
You can read a summary of the survey for Lot 26 Ronald Road here and for Lot 34 Cape Tribulation Road here.

Help save Bennett's Tree-kangaroo habitat
The tangible link between your donation and saving at-risk rainforests is clear. Over the last few years, we have proven this again and again and have now purchased 27 Daintree properties. Let’s keep this good thing going.
If we don’t buy these two properties, the critical habitat for threatened species will be lost and the Daintree will take another step towards urbanisation. If the properties we purchase have been damaged we restore them as we did with Lot 11 Buchanan Creek Road at Cow Bay.
For the purchase of Lot 34 Cape Tribulation Road and Lot 26 Ronald Road, I put off the vendors for as long as I could. They've agreed to settle on the purchase of these blocks in July, however, the contracts are now unconditional and I must raise the funds by the 30th of June.
These blocks can be developed for housing just as nearby properties have been in the past.
It is not illegal to clear land in the Daintree Rainforest for housing development. We have a solution that works and is very direct. Land buyback to prevent development.

The development of land for housing remains the number one threat to the oldest rainforest in the world – the irreplaceable Daintree Lowland Rainforest.
Many people believe the Daintree Rainforest is fully protected however that's not the case. In 1982 a developer created 1,136 freehold properties that were excluded from inclusion in the Daintree National Park and World Heritage Area when it was declared in 1988. Over time these properties are being developed for housing. This degrades the iconic Daintree Rainforest and damages the habitat of threatened species of plants and animals.
Please, help us Save the Daintree from the risk of further development. This is our special End of Financial Year appeal.

We’ve taken many photographs of Lot 26 Ronald Road at Forest Creek which you can see in a Facebook Album here. And also we've added photos of Lot 34 Cape Tribulation Road and you can see them here.
Thanks for everything you do to help Save the Daintree Rainforest.
