The climate crisis is heating up 

There's never been a more urgent need to respond to the effects of climate change. One of the best ways you can do that is by contributing to the conservation and restoration of rainforests, which sequester carbon and act as an important climate stabiliser.  

High-altitude, cool-climate rainforest habitats like the Maalan Cloud Forest in the Atherton Tablelands also provide refuge for several endemic, isolated and climate-sensitive species such as the endangered Spectacled Flying Fox, White Lemuroid Ringtail Possum and the Lumholtz’s Tree-kangaroo. 

This rainforest is also home to other significant species including the endangered Southern Cassowary, Spotted-Tail quoll, Green Ringtail Possum, Herbert River Ringtail Possum, and the Golden Bowerbird.

Unsurpassed ecological value 

The 83-hectare Maalan Cloud Forest in the Atherton Tablelands contains 45 hectares of high-altitude remnant rainforest habitat that is home to endemic and threatened species with nowhere else to go. 

Once the remaining 35 hectares of cleared land has been revegetated and restored, it will complete a high priority Wet Tropics corridor connecting Maalan National Park and Wooroonooran National Park.

With all gifts now matched, each $1.50 you donate will purchase 2 square metres of cloud forest. A donation of $30 buys 40 square metres. A donation of $150 will purchase 100 square metres and $300 will purchase and protect 200 square metres of cloud forest.

We need your help 

Fundraising in 2023 has been tougher than previous few years. That's why I really need your help. 

The total project cost to buy the Maalan Cloud Forest property is $1.2 million. We've already raised $449,720, but I still need to raise $750,280 in 90 days. That is a huge task.

Broken down, it could look like this: 

• 1 x $100k gift
• $400,000 in gifts between $10,000 and $50,000
• 10 x $10k
• 10 x $5k
• 25 x $2k
• 25 x 1,000  
• and $25,000 in gifts between $5 and $1,000

Any combination of the above to reach the target and all gifts will help us get to our goal.
