Hooray! You’ve saved Lot 124 in the Daintree!!

We asked if you wanted Lot 124 in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest added to the national park and your answer was yes! On the 10th of January we began fundraising to buyback this special rainforest property and fifty-three days later we’ve reached the $25,000 target. Thank you!!

Lot 124 Quandong Road has a boundary with the Daintree National Park

Through the support of 271 amazing donors, we raised the $25,000 required for the purchase of the property. Thank you to everyone who donated to ensure this special Daintree property is added to the Daintree National Park! You’ve joined with others to achieve a fantastic outcome for endangered wildlife. Lot 124 Quandong Road, Cow Bay is 1 ha in size and is covered by tropical rainforest. Some of the nearby blocks have been developed for housing as they were part of the disastrous rural residential subdivision created in the mid-1980s. The purchase and protection of Lot 124 Quandong Road is a fantastic outcome for conservation as it connects to the Daintree National Park / World Heritage Area and it provides vital habitat for the Endangered Southern Cassowary and the rare Bennetts Tree-kangaroo.

The settlement on the purchase of Lot 124 Quandong Road is scheduled for the 24th of March 2020. Then the process to transfer the property to the Queensland Government for inclusion in the Daintree National Park will begin. The Rainforest 4 Foundation and the Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation are working together to achieve this outcome.

We launched this appeal with our friends at HalfCut, an organisation that reminds us that we’ve lost half of the world’s rainforest and we’ve got to save what’s left. Thank you, Jimmy and Jess and all of the team and supporters of HalfCut for the wonderful effort in raising funds for the purchase of Lot 124 Quandong Road.

Lot 124 Quandong Road in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest

Thanks to the wonderful support of donors from all over Australia we've raised the funds to purchase and protect five properties in the last nine months. They are Lot 107 Buchanan Creek Road Cow Bay, Lot 3 Thornton Peak Drive, Forest Creek, Lot 390 Maple Road, Cow Bay, Lot 305 Cypress Road, Cow Bay, and Lot 124 Quandong Road, Cow Bay, and detail have been added to our Completed Projects page.

There are still many properties in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest that need to be purchased and protected in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest. The property we've identified for the next purchase is Lot 330 Cape Tribulation Road in Cow Bay. This property has exceptional natural values. A survey of the Lowland Tropical Rainforest on Lot 330 Cape Tribulation Road has identified 152 species of plants. This forest type also provides "Essential Habitat" for the Endangered Southern Cassowary. Please, help us raise $25,000 to purchase and protect Lot 330 Cape Tribulation Road and make a donation now
