Lot 398 Maple Road in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest has been purchased for conservation thanks to the generosity of hundreds of donors.
Lot 398 is covered in tropical rainforest
I am delighted to share the news that Lot 398 Maple Road at Cow Bay has been purchased and will now be managed for its exceptional conservation values.
We launched an appeal to buy this property on the 19th of September and just over two months later we reached our fundraising target. Thank you to everyone who made a donation.
Lot 398 Maple Road shares a boundary with the Daintree National Park and World Heritage Area and the property provides "Essential Habitat" for the Endangered Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius johnsonii) and the Threatened plant, Noah's Walnut (Endiandra microneura). We've added over 40 photographs of the property to an album on Facebook which you can see here.
On the property is a large Hopes Cycad that's estimated to be over 1,000 years old and there are many old-growth trees with hollows providing habitat for Birds, Snakes, Gliders, Possums, Bats, and other tree-dwelling animals. See more information here.
Thank you to everyone who helped to purchase Lot 398 Maple Road.
Lot 398 Maple Road in the Daintree Rainforest
In just 3 years we've acquired 26 Daintree properties for conservation. You can see them here. The properties are purchased with donations made by everyday Australians and people from around the world that love the Daintree and want to see it protected forever. This is so meaningful and I greatly appreciate the contribution of everyone who supported this great outcome.
We purchased Lot 398 Maple Road in Cow Bay to fulfil our vision for the conservation of the Daintree Lowland Rainforest. This requires the buyback of all undeveloped freehold properties in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest and ensuring the land is included in the Daintree National Park (CYPAL) where it can be managed for conservation. Its strategic location at the end of Maple Road makes this an important acquisition as we work towards reversing the impacts of the subdivision created in 1982.
Save the Daintree Rainforest from development for as little as $5 per month.
An affordable gift every month is the very best way to help us buy back land in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest as it allows us to plan ahead. The more people we have making a monthly gift the more confidence we can have in placing a deposit on properties and planning for their purchase. Please, will you help to save the Daintree with an affordable monthly gift?
Your monthly gift will support the purchase of at-risk freehold properties and protect them forever. Each $2.50 donated will purchase 1 sqm of the Daintree Rainforest. Every $5 you donate will help save 2 square meters of the Daintree Rainforest from the threat of development. A $25 donation will help save 10 square meters of beautiful tropical rainforest. A donation of $50 will help save 20 square meters and $100 will help save 40 square meters of World Heritage value Daintree Rainforest.
Donations are tax-deductible and receipts will be issued. Other frequently asked questions are answered here.
